With Independents Abandoning Obama... Are Teens and Blacks Next?
I believe we are on the precipice of a seismic shakeup. White independents have already left Obama in droves, I believe it is only a matter of time till the young adults and postgraduates begin fleeing him and them its only a short time till his base of black voters begins to abandon him due to his policies.
When Obama won the election in 2008, Gallup had Obama winning 99% of the black vote, 61% of the 18 to 29 year old vote, and 64% of the Post Graduate vote.
As Black Voices website points out:
Black teen unemployment jumped by nearly two percent, from 38 percent last month to 39.9 percent this month, which is alarming. The lack of teen jobs has a seriously detrimental effect on the African American community,
And its not just black teens that can't find work at rates far worse than the general population.
Businessweek recently reported that unemployment for American workers from ages 16-24 had risen to 19.6%. In other words, nearly 1 out of every 5 young Americans who are actively searching for work are left empty-handed at a rate close to twice that of the rest of the population.
And even worse for Obama, its not just young adults and graduates that can't find work and are getting restless.
The news for black people is rarely positive, and the recession without end has only exacerbated an already terrible condition. According to the New York City Comptroller, black unemployment in that city is more than four times as high as white unemployment, a rate of 14.7% for blacks and 3.7% for whites. Black unemployment rose more than 9 percentage points in the past year, a 167% increase.
The unique circumstances of black Americans will get no attention from the Obama administration unless crowds stop adoring him and start making demands on him. The trajectory for black America goes ever downward, even as the presence of a black man in the White House gives the mirage-like appearance of success for all. If black people continue to lose assets, homes and jobs and fail to bring attention to their plight, then hackneyed speeches from Obama will be all we will get.
Charisma, hope and change can only get Obama so far. Once his hardcore supporters also begin to realize that their situation has actually gotten even worse under Obama, look out. A seismic shift of epic proportions is in the works. Never underestimate a population that can't find work...black or white, young or old. And unfortunately for Obama, the group that is being hit hardest by his ill conceived policies are his base -- the young and black.
